Not Pleased

I’m not usually one to complain and can find humour in a lot of things but this doesn’t please me much…

What really bothers me is the “become a muslim part.” I know it’s supposed to be funny and ironic in the American sense.

But here we are trying to alleviate any sort of stigmatisation against the turban and quite the opposite is happening.

Sure not everyone in the world has to love the tool, but then again when something fractures our image, I have to speak up about it. Thank God for this blog.

The whole point is we want to portray the turban as something that trascends race and religion. As a fun headgear that can be manipulated in many ways that does not have to necessarily have to relate to religion.

We are not by any means saying that by wearing the turban you can or will become a Sikh, Muslim etc.

I really hope Willy Weird gets its facts right! Hmph! Read the Press Release!!!

1st Turbaned Sikh Pilot

It’s really one for woman kind in the Turban world cause the first ever turbaned Sikh woman pilot gets named 1st Officer for American Eagle!

As reported on India West website,

Super cool! I know that many people believe that women wearing turbans (the traditional sort, not the Prada sort) seems slightly out of place. But that’s hardly true.

As we’ve clearly shown on Turbanizer, there are so many varities of Turbans to choose from that it’s totally possible to seem fashionable whilst wearing the turban.

Sure the lady in the above mentioned in donning one that is particularly traditional in fashion, but well she is a 1st officer right? She has to remain formal!

Speaking of which, did you know that Sikh men are the only soldiers who don’t have to wear helmets during military training? Some might think that’s unsafe, but at least they are given the option to stand by their beliefs so hurrah for them!

C/Net’s Nicholas Khoo Sporting A New Look

It seems the bridge from trying turbans online are slowly but surely transcending into real life! As reported by The Geek on Geekonomics (C/net’s Blog), Nicholas Ang’s wears a turban with Turbanizer’s creator Ash Singh!

Methinks that The Geek is looking quite cute in his red and white stripped Turban! Perhaps it’s a look he should be sporting more often!

Snoop Dogg Dones a Turban

Hello Friends!

It seems to have been a long time since we’ve had an update around here so let’s get right into it shall we?

Much has been going on on the Turbanizer front but even more has been going on in the Turban world! Turban lovers and connoisseurs listen up! Guess who has been sporting a turban these days…

It’s our very own favourite rapper, Snoop Dogg!

Oh yes, for the latest Bollywood blockbuster to hit the cinemas, Snoop Dogg collaborated with Bhangra artists from UK, RDB and the creators of the movie, “Singh is King,” to create a the latest musical sensation that blends R&B with good old-fashioned Bollywood/Bhangra music!

AS reported on NDTV’s Music.com

I think we looks mighty fine doing it as well. I know I don’t share the opinion alone that wearing a turban somehow makes someone look more… royal?

The images of Snopp Dogg and hottie Akshay Kumar sitting on their thrones in gorgeous sherwanis and beautifully wrapped turbans on their heads is really magestic!

Oh if you think my sentiments are too mushy then do check out the movie and see for yourself!

P.S. What would you think of getting Turbanized by the same turban Snopp Dogg wore? Cool huh!

Trouble in Paradise

Sigh… On one hand we’ve created this online tool to help alleviate racism surrounding turbans so that people can gain more awareness instead of view the turban in scorn and skepticism.

But on the other hand we have this…

“Disney Sued for Alleged Religious Discrimination

Sikh musician refused job due to turban at Walt Disney World Amusement Park. Mr. Sukhbir Channa, a practitioner of the Sikh religion, applied for a job with Disney in the Fall of 2006 but was not hired and was allegedly told that he did not have “the Disney look” - a negative reference to his religiously-mandated dastaar (Sikh turban). Witnesses have filed affidavits in his support. The lawsuit seeks financial damages and a court order barring Disney from ever discriminating against prospective Sikh employees.”

It’s like one positive step in the right direction has a million other negative steps. Obviously it would be idealistic to assume that racism can be alleviated in one day.

Yet reading articles like these really upset me. If such a mega huge company like Disney can be guilty of the above, what’s left of the lower people on the ground? Will they follow suit?

This reminds me of the episode of Oprah when Tommy Hilfiger came on and openly admitted that he was racist and Oprah threw him off the show (go Oprah!). You would assume that educated individuals who have seen it all in the world would have the most compassion but it doesn’t seem so.

It always sucks to be the minority anywhere. Especially when the minority is constantly being mistaken as terrorists at airports and friends shun away cause you look different.

That’s why the turban is different. As I’ve repeated several times, it is shaped to your personality. It’s so flexible (literally and metaphorically). But you won’t know till your try it!

Anyway, we’ve got a huge battle to fight. It’s obviously not going to change overnight but thanks to everyone who have attempted to make a difference! =)

Funny Site Of The Day!

Not to long ago, Mike from About.com gave Turbanizer a go…

Unfortunately, I guess he wasn’t choosing the best turban for his face. =P

You see the trick is that you have to choose the best turban for your face and personality. I can tell you honestly, that in the Turbanized picture I have, my turban is sticking out of my head! Some of the turbans are just like that cause it’s just an image.

Soon, we will be putting up even more turbans on the website! Probably then people will have more choices when adjusting it on your head!

One time is never enough, we’re constantly making changes so don’t forget to keep checking the website out! Or this blog for further details!

What a difference a week makes

In a short span of time, Turbanizer reached it’s 3000th visitor as well as hundreds of accolades on various blogs and websites!

You know, people would imagine that a online tool about turbans would appeal more to turban wearers than anyone else. Not true! Majority of our users come from the European and American regions of the world and guess what… They’re not even Indian!

I guess it’s just super fun to try something new. I know everyone has different associations of turbans in their mind.

1. Terrorism

2. Religious Fanaticism

3. Fashion faux pas (though I obviously beg to differ)

But it’s gaining popularity and shout-outs on various blogs which obviously means that everyone’s perceptions are changing!

OMG! Recently, we got a shout-out from a Japanese blog! How interesting!

I don’t understand a thing it says but I’m guessing it’s explaining the directions of how to Turbanize yourself in Japanese! How cool is that?!

Is Turbanizer really headed for world domination?

Prada Stepping Up

The world is a funny place. On one hand, anyone in a turban these days seems to be a likely target for terrorism. Even poor Obama was accused of being a Muslim just cause there was some alleged picture of him in a turban! Sheesh!

But on the other hand, turbans are getting really popular in fashion as well! The Fashionator is reporting that Turbans have made a comeback on the heads of models and celebrities.

The style seems to emulate the style of Elizabeth Taylor back in her day. The satin turban gorgeously folded on the head, with the model’s hair let down. Very rich feel, me thinks! Unfortunately, The Fashionator seems skeptical of this style returning to the runways.

Obviously, I think it’s super rad that it’s making a comeback. Might I just point out how every new fashion trend always seems a little crazy when it first comes out.

Hel-lo, Crocks anyone? If those super huge, plastic hole-y shoes can be a major fashion trend, I believe the Turban is leagues ahead.

I think people don’t understand how moldable the turban is to your personality and style. That’s what Stage 2 of Turbanizer is going to introduce. A whole range of gender friendly turbans and accessories to jazz up your turban according to what you like!

Trust me, it’s totally going to revolutionize the fashion world! Thank you Prada for making the first step!
